Photo Friday: Blown Glass Blows My Mind

Dale Chihuly is a glass artist. That's like saying Antarctica is a little chilly. Or that a shark has a few teeth. Or...

Nevermind. Let's get on with the show.

I'd seen photos of the exhibit at the Royal Ontario Museum, but nothing compared to the reality. There is a quote from this incredible artist on the ROM website: "I want people to be overwhelmed with light and color in a way that they have never experienced.”

Mission accomplished, Mr. Chihuly.

These blown glass structures defy description. I wanted to spend hours looking at them. I wanted to spend hours photographing them. The photos are fantastic – how could they not be with such a subject? — yet don’t begin to show the reality of the experience.

We spent a couple of hours in the exhibit, but it wasn’t enough. We are going back. You should go, too. Even if you think this isn’t something you’d be interested in, go anyway. You won’t regret it. It will blow your mind.

The Chihuly is at the ROM until January 8, 2017.

We have three Chihuly installations in Indiana that I am aware of. All are magnificent.
