Random 5 at the New Year

How were your holidays? I hope they were fantastically wonderful and that you got to have a lot of rest. Personally, I’m not quite done with sleeping yet, but here we are back in the active part of the calendar yet again. As my thinking processes are still being dragged kicking and screaming into 2018, I thought I’d start with something fairly easy (for both of us). Something random and chatty seemed to be a good way to kick off a brand new year. Oh, snap with the cold snap via GIPHY   As Santa arrived in Canada from the North Pole bringing presents for all good boys and girls, he also brought a polar vortex with him. Perhaps he doesn’t give coal anymore? Or maybe it was never that,   but someone misunderstanding the term and actually what the Naughty List gets is C-O-L-D. If that’s the case, we have been very, very Naughty indeed. There are parts of Canada that are colder than the North Pole, and Arctic, and Mars . One of those places is Toronto, whi...

5 Tips for Surviving the Holidays with a Chronic Illness

I did a Facebook Live earlier this afternoon talking about how to do less, so you can enjoy the holidays more. And only a few of the funny moments were inadvertent... :)

According to every merchant out there, Christmas started about a week and a half ago. There are decorations, Christmas trees, even a countdown to Christmas. Which really just ramps up the stress. And you don't need that. Because stress makes chronic illnesses flare. Join me this Wednesday on my Facebook Page at 2:30 PM ET to talk about how to reduce the stress of the holidays.  Bunny slippers optional.

A Duck and Some Lumberjacks: Canada 150 in Toronto

One of my favourite things about summer is Canada Day and the Redpath Waterfront Festival . And really, is there anything better than long weekends in the summer? Well, Christmas arguably, but it requires wearing more clothes. And no, I’m not tromping about naked, but there are no socks and no sweaters. Back to the Canada Day long weekend. This year, Canada officially turned 150 years old, so there was a lot going on in this beautiful country as we all celebrated. Toronto celebrated with a duck. Well, there was also multiple fireworks, parties, cake, and much more, but the thing everyone talked about was the duck. The six-story 300,000 pound rubber ducky in the harbour. But I get ahead of myself. The Canada Day weekend is also the weekend of the Redpath Waterfront Festival. It’s relatively new, but has already made its mark — at least with me. They started being with flyboarding , moved on to tall ships (including Vikings), and this year there wer...

Photo Friday: Christmas x2

Image
It's still Christmas somewhere in the world, isn't it? This was supposed to go up last week, but croup got in the way . It was wonderful to have some time off over the holidays and be able to focus on relaxing with family. We liked it so much that we did Christmas twice! First we had a grown-up Christmas Eve while the Tinks spent that holiday with their dad, and then we did it all over again with the kids. As you may have realized by now, Christmas is my favourite holiday and the only way to improve y our favourites is do them more often! Isn't that how it works? Somehow, we were all ready by Friday evening and Christmas Eve day was spent lollygagging and taking a lovely walk down by Sugar Beach. Which is beautiful in all weather. This year we welcomed a new member to the Christmas family. Paul fits right in, as evidenced by him having fun with weatherstripping. We call our traditional Christmas dinner The Best Meal of the Year and that's not just because of ...
