You can't imagine the complaints we got from tall people who now had to bend over to use the machines! I stood next to a fellow employee who was complaining loudly about this and said, so this is mildly inconvienent for you now? His answer was well, yes. I said, oh, well, I think your mild inconvienence doesn't really offset all of those folks that couldn't use it all now does it? Selfish and self centered silly boy.Lesliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17639790459615698073noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12707009.post-64939425787417930062012-08-22T16:52:54.102-04:002012-08-22T16:52:54.102-04:00I totally agree with Pacalaga! I know there are companies that hire out for that sort of thing (not as many as obviously need to, but still).

Unfortunately, in the past year and a half as I've lost the ability to walk and had to use both a manual wheelchair (wider than most as I'm a big girl) and my electric chair Ive realized more than ever that the world is not made for those with disabilities. I am lucky enough that in places where my manual wheelchair doesn't fit that I can get up and walk a few steps with my cane so that my hubby can get it through a door, but I know others are not so lucky. My husband has stopped many times to talk with managers about accessibility or lack thereof and asked them to report it to corporate, etc.

Its frustrating and I wish there were stricter rules about making things accessible to all. It doesn't take much in most circumstances to make the adjustments needed. It just takes an open mind and a little thought and everything could be accessible to everyone.Carrie Bethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00598945060834155510noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12707009.post-34879153345234794632012-08-22T05:17:22.719-04:002012-08-22T05:17:22.719-04:00We just visited a fitness center locally who touts...We just visited a fitness center locally who touts their accessibility.
I am planning a blog post about it when we find out if they make a few changes but for now:
1. the doorway from the family changing room (where disabled folks and their spouse or helper can use the accessible changing room) into the pool is too narrow for a wheelchair.
2. the elevator was cranky about my considerable weight, and that was in my manual chair not the behemoth I would be using
3. the two ergometers were placed with only about 8 inches access to each side, and a pillar between them.
4. the pool has no lift, and it's ramp has no hand rail.
It is only 1/2 mile from home and would have been awesome for me to be able to go by myself.. if there were any thing there I could use!Diana Troldahlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04995861214213617151noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12707009.post-84313727204883823712012-08-21T23:44:01.893-04:002012-08-21T23:44:01.893-04:00I'm telling you, you need to get a job as an a...I'm telling you, you need to get a job as an accessibility inspector.pacalagahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12498703982601315908noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12707009.post-5716564924231495442012-08-21T19:02:08.508-04:002012-08-21T19:02:08.508-04:00You make a great point about the detachable pin pa...You make a great point about the detachable pin pads.
